Petra Trenkel (born 1968 in Bischofsheim/Maintal2, Germany)studied at Hochschule für Bildende Künste, Städelschule, Frankfurt/Main.  She lives and works in Berlin.

The work of Petra Trenkel concerns the perception and depiction of urban environments. She focussus on areas - usually part of her neighbourhood - that are characterized by degeneration, demolition, reuse, overpainting, extension and by terrains being wasted. Due to the daily encounters with these areas an acquaintanceship developes and thereby a visual understanding that results in paintings that despite all the sobriety and austerity of the motifs can reveal the subdued grace of these areas.

The four images (library, opposite, town&country and gas station) are made during a two-month residency at The Chinati Foundation in Marfa/Texas.
